FIELD TRIP PROGRAM
- Visit the Farm!

- Our program is designed to help connect students to their local food system. Visiting students help with farm chores that include preparing beds, seeding, transplanting, and harvesting food for the Thurston County Food Bank. Youth are encouraged to use all five of their senses to make observations about how plants grow and how we grow the food that sustains us.
- Make Connections

- Groups will take a tour of the farm, participating in inquiry based investigations of the plants, animals, and earth at our productive 3-acre farm in West Olympia. Classes can also participate in our learning garden. In the spring students can help plant corn, beans, and squash, and learn about traditional Native American companion planting. On fall visits enjoy bringing in the harvest of dry beans, winter squash, pumpkins, and corn. Students can help gather eggs from our flock of laying chickens and aid our slug eating ducks in locating prey.

- Meet State Standards
- Our staff and Education Program Advisory Committee have developed a program that works in conjunction with the Washington State standards, utilizing the EALRs, GLEs and benchmarks for elementary grades. The activities and lessons work with core concepts primarily in the areas of Health, Social Studies, and Science. We are also happy to work with you to adapt our curriculum to best meet the needs of your group. View our Field Trips Brochure.
