Volunteer with KGP

There are several ways you can get involved with the Kitchen Garden Project:

Seed-Sorting Party
Mark your calendars! In late Winter of each year we look for volunteers to help us at our annual Seed-Sorting Party, where we sort and pack up thousands of packets of donated seeds to be distributed to our garden recipients for the coming growing season.
Translation
We're also looking for some help with translation of our KGP outreach materials so we can reach more folks in our community. Specifically, we are actively seeking someone who can translate some of our fliers into Vietnamese. Sign up to help translate by sending a message to KGP Coordinator Rochelle Gause through our contact form, or by calling the office at (360) 753-5522.
Garden Mentoring

If you have a little (or a lot) of gardening experience we encourage you to attend our Garden Mentor Training. This training includes fun workshops that will prepare you to serve as a KGP Garden Mentor. As a Garden Mentor you will be asked to visit the home of a new garden recipient and help them familiarize with their new garden. Many new garden recipients have never planted a seed before, and your mentorship will make it not so overwhelming. Sharing your love of gardening and answering basic questions will help the new gardener have a successful gardening season. Normally mentors visit the new gardener just once during the Spring, although mentors are encouraged to be part of the initial garden build (so you can meet your new gardener) and it is helpful, but not required, that you remain accessible in the summer for answering questions and sharing stories. This is a very meaningful way to have a personal impact on someone's life.
Build Gardens

If you want to get your hands dirty there are plenty of opportunities to go out with us and build gardens! Garden Builds generally take about three hours. During an average build, we will construct 3 raised-beds and a bean trellis out of lumber, then fill the beds with soil (rain or shine!). We build gardens from March through June, usually 2 a day, Monday through Saturday (and occasionally on Sunday). Pick a date and time that works within your schedule and feel the satisfaction of building gardens!

Please contact our KGP Coordinator in advance to schedule a volunteer project, or call (360) 753-5522.
