Teacher Training - Camas Prairies & Cultural Ecosystems

Join the Tend, Gather, & Grow Community of Teachers!

Learn about five ecosystems that Native Americans have cultivated since time immemorial including camas prairies, food forests, saltwater beaches, wetlands, and mountain huckleberry meadows.

Many children grow up thinking that people are inherently bad for the land. Through learning about cultural ecosystems, youth see how people can promote biodiversity and well-being through conscientious stewardship of the land.

We will start the day at GRuB with an overview lesson and then will head to the Mima Mounds to explore camas prairie ecosystems.

Participants will receive lessons from the Tend Gather, & Grow curriculum including the cultural ecosystems overview and field trip guide. Lessons fit best with grades 6-12 learning levels but can be adapted for younger children & adults.

Taught by Elise Krohn, GRuB's Director of Traditional Plant Programs and Joyce LeCompte
