In 2013, the Community Farm Land Trust received Thurston County Conservation Futures funds to purchase and preserve 1.18 acres of urban agriculture land for the use by GRuB. This is the first farm that Community Farm Land Trust (CFLT) has preserved that is being farmed by a non-profit organization. GRuB's mission "to grow healthy food, people and the community" fits very closely with that of CFLT. As such, CFLT is thrilled to partner with and support GRuB's important role in the community and local food system.
CFLT has a broad vision of abundant, productive, sustainable local farmland providing healthy food for our community and contributing to a vibrant, viable farm economy. As such, we work to:
- Permanently protect farmland and to provide affordable land security for farmers.
- Assure that farmland remains farmed and continues to support a viable agricultural economy that provides for local food security
- Build a community that appreciates and supports locally produced food, and where farms can provide a good economic return to those who work the land.
To date we have preserved 216 acres amongst 4 farms across our service area. As we approach our 30th anniversary, we envision the growth of our organizational capacity, and an increase in the number of farms preserved and the number of young and underserved placed on the land.
