Welcoming Our New Board of Directors Members

Welcoming Our New Board of Directors Members

This winter, we welcomed Suzanne and Lauren, as two new members on our Board of Directors.

Lauren Johnson has a passion for helping people identify barriers to accessing, cooking and eating.  Lauren is a registered dietitian who works full time for the South Sound Behavioral Hospital, and also serves on the board of Slow Food Greater Olympia Chapter.  Lauren shares “I believe eating is a radical act of self-care and a way to connect to our environment…as people heal that relationship, our local environmental health strengthens as well as our relationship to our own bodies.”

Suzanne Klenk is a financial educator and coach who has worked with WSECU for 26 years. She has volunteered with GRuB for over a decade and is drawn to our work with youth education, land stewardship, and engaging with the community through the commonality of food. She serves in leadership roles on a variety of community networks and boards, and is also a military Veteran, and currently the host parent for exchange students from around the world!

In other board news, we say thank you to Kathy Berndt, who stepped down from the GRuB Board in February.  Kathy brought good humor and can-do spirit as chair of our Cultivation Committee.  She built connections for GRuB in the community, wrote multitudes of thank you notes, secured auction items from near and far, hosted a party, and so much more!

We start 2024 with three new Board Committee chairs, and are grateful for the energy and care they bring to their roles.  Bertiffiny Terrell is chair of our Cultivation Committee; Ross Amell serves as the chair of our Board Development Committee; Raina Nitz is our Board Treasurer and chair of our Finance Committee.
